Before you learned to speak, before you accumulated a single belief about what you are or are not spiritually capable of — your soul already knew how to connect to everything in the universe. That knowledge was there, fully present, in the womb. The moment of birth is when the covering began.
Sri Kaleshwar teaches this precisely:
Until you’re born, the soul knows how to connect to everything in the Universe. Once you come out, from the next second onward, the illusions are grabbing you. As you keep growing, the illusions are pouring on you. But the soul is always pure and divine. The illusions, the karmas, the negativity, cover the soul, like the dust covers the mirror so you can’t see your face. You don’t recognize who you are. Once you remove the dust, then you can see your soul.[1]
This is the actual situation. Not a soul that has failed to develop. Not a person who is spiritually insufficient. A soul that knew everything at the moment of arrival and then — from the very next second — began accumulating the covering that made that knowing invisible.
The soul has not changed. The dust has accumulated.
IWhat This Means for the First Step
If this is the true situation — a soul that is already fully connected, covered by accumulated illusion — then the first step toward the Divine Mother is not a step across a vast spiritual distance. It is a turning. A direction. The beginning of removing the dust from something that has always been there.
This completely changes what the beginning of a relationship with the Mother requires.
It does not require years of prior practice. It does not require knowing the prayers or understanding the ceremonies or feeling ready. It does not require proving worthiness or arriving in any particular state. None of that is what the covering responds to. What it responds to is the genuine wanting — the honest turning of the heart toward Her.
Sri Kaleshwar’s teaching on this could not be more direct:
The one goal is to connect to Mother Divine, to have the desire to hook Her. Once you enter into your Mother’s home, She will take care of you and whatever you really want. Then you can demand whatever delicious food you want to eat from Her. If She has the patience, She’ll cook it for you; otherwise She will cook you! Just enter into Her house, then She will take care. Once you really want Her, and your heart is open to Her, 100% She’ll come and She’ll take care of you. She’s unbelievably kind.[2]
Just enter into Her house. The qualification is not spiritual achievement. It is the desire. The open heart. The willingness to turn in Her direction.
And once the soul turns — once the genuine desire is there — She responds. Not eventually. Not after a sufficient demonstration of sincerity. The teaching says 100%. She will come. That is Her nature.
IIThe Child at Her Feet
There is a reason the image this teaching uses for approaching the Mother is a child — not a student who has mastered the curriculum, not a practitioner who has completed the requirements, but a child. Specifically, a child coming to its mother.
A child does not prepare before turning to its mother. A child does not assess its own spiritual readiness. A child comes as it is — confused, needing, not knowing exactly what it needs — and the mother responds. The relationship does not depend on the child’s competence or development. It depends entirely on the turning.
The relationship between every soul and the Divine Mother carries exactly this quality. The connection is already full-strength — as the teaching in the previous article established, it is a strong link, equal to the connection Jesus had to Her, covered now by layers of maya but not diminished by them. She is already oriented in the direction of every soul. She is already waiting for the turn.
She chose you before you chose Her. The wanting that brought you to this article is already the beginning of the step.
IIITen Days in a Current That Carries You
One step is a beginning. Sustaining the direction — keeping the heart turned toward Her against the full pull of ordinary life — is the actual work. That is what builds the relationship over time. That is what is genuinely hard.
Navaratri is designed specifically for people who are at the beginning of this.
For ten days, thousands of practitioners turn in the same direction at the same time. This is not incidental — it is one of the defining conditions of the ten days. When you are practicing alone, the turning depends entirely on your own will. When thousands of people are doing the same thing, a current builds. You can be carried by it when your own momentum falters.
Each night’s ceremony, teaching, and satsang brings the attention back. If it drifted after the previous night, the next ceremony restores it. The structure of ten consecutive days does for a new practitioner what it would take months of solitary practice to build: it holds the direction stable long enough for the relationship to actually take root.
The soul that has just taken its first step toward the Mother is arriving into optimal conditions — held by the current of thousands, turned in the right direction, with the season itself amplifying what any individual effort alone can only partially achieve.
October 11 through 20. Open to anyone, exactly as they are.
Once the turning begins, a communication opens. The next question is how to speak into it.
