The same nature that produces still lakes and flowering fields also produces earthquakes, floods, and fires. Sri Kaleshwar does not soften this or explain it away. He names it as a fundamental teaching about who the Mother is:
She is the nature. All of it.
The beautiful things arrive from Her. And so do the difficult ones.
This is not the teaching of an indifferent universe or a punishing God. It is a more precise understanding — that the hard things, when they arrive from the hand of the Mother, carry a purpose the soul cannot always see from inside the experience. Once you understand this, what was confusing becomes something else: an invitation to look more closely at what is actually happening, and why.
IThe Washing. The Ironing.
Sri Kaleshwar’s teaching on why difficulty arrives from the Mother is one of the most vivid in the corpus:
Even for Mother Divine, there’s no bad intention in giving you a hard time. But once you’re under control of Mahamaya, you are in the unbelievable process of purification. Once your washing is done, She has to do the ironing. It’s not just from this lifetime, but from your many, many lifetimes. All the stuff you keep on carrying comes out.[1]
The washing. Then the ironing.
There is no bad intention in it. Difficulty arriving in one’s life is not punishment and not an accident. It is the Mother working on what the soul has been carrying — not just from this life, but across many. The wrinkles that have been set in across lifetimes take a certain kind of attention to come out. She provides it.
This reframes everything.
The pattern that keeps repeating — the same dynamic arriving with different people in different contexts — is not proof of something broken in you. It is the thing being laundered. The situation that won’t resolve, the door that stays closed, the reaction that keeps arriving: all of it is the soul’s material moving through the Mother’s process of purification. What is being cleaned is not evidence of failure. It is evidence that She is working.
IIShe Is Both
The teaching on Her dual nature is stated without apology:
Mother is the woman of huge love. She is also, same part, a woman of huge anger. One part is positive. One part is negative. In the Indian spiritual tradition, they say She is the nature. In the nature, you can see very beautiful flowers and beautiful lakes. It is gorgeous. This same nature brings huge earthquakes, floods, and many disasters. It’s terrible. Mother Divine’s nature is like that. You should taste Her in both ways — then only you can really understand Her; otherwise, no way. Otherwise, there is no fragrance in your life. You didn’t understand the real truth. Just you were born, you lived only on the surface, then you died; it’s over, gone. You really only saw the material life and only experienced the normal surface love. You didn’t see the deeper, inner side of Creation, up and down. Who really understands the ups and downs — I can only consider him as the right soul in this universe.[2]
The right soul in this universe. The one who has tasted both sides.
The person who has only ever experienced the Mother in the gentle, generous, beautiful things has only seen half of Her. The teaching says: there is no fragrance in a life that only experienced the surface. To live a life that only understands the easy part is to live without having understanding Her — and without having understanding yourself, which is the deeper loss.
What makes the difficult things teachable is the same quality that makes the beautiful things receivable: the willingness to taste both and learn from both. To ask not only “why is this happening?” but “what is being cleansed? What has been carrying this shape across lifetimes? What is She making available through what is being purified?”
This is the posture the teaching invites. Not passive, not resigned. Curious. Relational. Open to what the washing reveals.
IIIShe Knows Your Soul Completely
What sustains the posture is the third teaching — the one that answers the fear underneath “but what if this is more than I can bear?”:
She knows what to do, when to do, how to do. Simply accept it.[3]
She sees the whole of you. She knows which wrinkles are from this life and which are from previous lives. She knows what the soul can hold and what it needs in order to be ready for what comes next. The acceptance the teaching points to is not “this is fine.” It is “She knows more about what this is doing than I can see from inside it.”
That is not passivity. It is the trust that frees attention from fighting what is arriving and redirects it toward receiving what it contains.
IVNavaratri: Ten Days of Satsang Inside the Teaching
Navaratri is not only fire ceremonies and meditation. It is ten days of teachings that illuminate exactly what this article has been describing: Her nature, Her mechanisms, why the difficult things arrive, what purification actually looks like in your life, how the soul learns to taste both and find Her in both.
The things that have been confusing — the pattern that doesn’t make sense, the situation that feels like abandonment, the difficulty that has no obvious spiritual explanation — often become legible through the teachings given during these ten days. Not because someone explains your specific situation, but because Sri Kaleshwar’s teaching on the Mother’s nature lands in the soul, and the soul begins to read its own experience differently. The lens changes. And what the lens changes, the life seen through it changes too.
Ten days of teachings, combined with fire ceremonies actively working on what is being purified, combined with the accessibility of the Divine Mother’s energy during this auspicious time — this is what Navaratri offers to the person who has been living on the surface and wants to go deeper.
October 11 through 20. Open to anyone, through DEVI LOKA.
Once the life becomes the curriculum, the relationship with the Mother becomes constant. Not only in ceremony. In everything.
