The ancient palm leaf knowledge does not treat all moments as equal. It identifies specific windows — the full moon, the new moon, particular seasons, particular confluences of energy — when the channels between the human soul and the divine are more open than at other times. Not because the divine is more present. Because the conditions are more conducive for receiving.
The teaching on this is direct:
The right prayers, the right sadhana, at the right time, with the right master, with the right channeling is enough and you can walk towards really amazing experiences. It’s like you’re having a big milk pot and you start pouring the rosewater in the pot. The quantity of milk goes out and the rosewater stays. That’s why we have to receive the high divine energy in our soul pot. Whatever we have done from our soul’s birth till now, all the karmas, illusions, negativity, you can wash them out.[1]
The right time. The teaching does not say the right prayers alone. It says the right sadhana at the right time — as a unit. The timing is a variable, and it matters.
When practice aligns with auspicious timings, what accumulates in the soul across lifetimes — the karmas, the illusions, the weight — can be washed out. The rosewater displaces the milk. The high divine energy received in these windows replaces the karmas and blocks that have accumulated in the soul. Not slowly, over years. In the right conditions, substantially and quickly.
Navaratri provides these conditions.
IWhen the Ocean Is Still
The Divine Mother’s nature, as the teaching describes it, moves. She is not static. She is the nature — and the nature has seasons, tides, storms, and the periods of extraordinary stillness that follow them.
Mother Divine is the woman of huge love, but she is also simultaneously a woman of huge anger. Nature is never always beautiful. Sometimes it is extremely beautiful and sometimes there are huge floods, earthquakes, disasters, and burning. We see all this in nature. In one part of nature you can see very beautiful flowers and beautiful lakes. It is gorgeous. Then the same nature also produces huge earthquakes, floods, and terrible things. Mother Divine’s character is like that. Woman is a silent ocean. If the ocean is silent, it is very silent. When it starts to flood then only the ocean can know how great the flood will be. Once she starts to calm down, then you can receive anything from her, whatever you want. You can receive from her whatever you want.[2]
When the ocean is silent, it is very silent.
The teaching names what is available when She is in Her receptive aspect: whatever you want, you can receive from her. Whatever you want. The question is how a seeker reaches that quality of contact — how the soul opens enough, steadies enough, sustains attention long enough, for the still-ocean quality to become real in experience.
Once she starts to calm down — whatever you want, you can receive from her.
This is what ten consecutive days of practice are designed to create. Not one ceremony. Ten. Fire every night. The same intention sustained across the entire retreat. The conditions of Navaratri — concentrated practice, thousands of seekers aligned in the same direction, the accumulated momentum of ten days — are how a seeker enters what Her nature makes available. The channels open. By the time the tenth day arrives, a soul that has been present through the full arc is reaching Her from a different depth than when it arrived on October 11.
IIWhat These Nights Are Building Toward
Nine days and nights of sacred ceremony, purification, connection, and transmission. And then the tenth day.
Vijayadasami — October 20.
On the Maha Vijayadashami festival day — a festival celebrating Mother Divine’s victory over the dark forces — Baba was sitting in his small Dwarkamai temple.[3]
This is what Vijayadasami is: Mother Divine’s victory over the dark forces. The culminating day of the entire ten-day arc.
Shirdi Sai Baba chose this day for his mahasamadhi — his conscious departure from the physical body. Not assigned to it by circumstance. He chose it. A soul of his magnitude, who had complete command over the timing of his own transition, chose the most sacred day in the calendar: the day of Her victory.
The nine nights are not ten separate events. They are a single arc, building toward a single point — the day when the darkness that accumulates in a soul and in the world is overcome. By Her. Through Her. In Her time.
A seeker who enters October 11 and moves through all ten days arrives at October 20 having been shaped by the entire arc. The fire has purified across nine nights. The teachings have landed. The transmissions have built in the soul. And then: Vijayadasami. The culmination. Her victory.
IIIEntering the Arc
Navaratri is not just a ten-day retreat you attend. It is ten days of soul transformation and awakening.
The conditions are powerful — the auspicious timing, the millions of souls all orienting in the same direction at the same time, and the culminating day at the close. All of this is already here, arriving on October 11. What determines whether any individual soul receives what is available in these days is not complicated: the willingness to enter fully, bring what is real, and stay present through the arc.
The soul that arrives at Vijayadasami having lived all ten days is standing on different ground than the soul that merely observed them.
October 11 through 20. DEVI LOKA — open to anyone.
There is one more teaching before the ten days begin. Something the entire arc is ultimately pointing toward — not about ceremony, not about practice, but about what is actually possible in the relationship itself.
